This Week’s Featured Chamber Member
Mid-Ohio Valley Wedding Officiants
This week, we would like to highlight a brand new member of our Chamber whom we had the pleasure of interviewing recently. It is our pleasure to introduce, Mid-Ohio Valley Wedding Officiants. We spoke with Deb Lorentz, owner, to get to know more about her business and the services that she provides. See below for her Q&A!
Tell us a little about Mid-Ohio Valley Wedding Officiants.
“I am licensed to officiate weddings in WV and OH. Mid-Ohio Valley Wedding Officiants offers a variety of wedding packages, ranging from drive-thru weddings to fully customized ceremonies. I officiate weddings at my chapel in downtown Parkersburg, WV, as well as on location anywhere in WV and OH. My chapel is located at 531 Market Street in downtown Parkersburg. All ceremonies are by appointment only.”
What got you interested in the business?
“After getting frustrated planning my wedding, I suggested that my fiancé and I elope. We did just that. We drove to Columbus, OH and got married. I enjoyed the experience so much that I said, “I may want to do this one day.” Two-and-a-half years later, I added officiating as an adjunct to my photography business. I was immediately booked for ceremonies. Eventually, Mid-Ohio Valley Wedding Officiants became my business. Although I began the business with the goal of having other officiants, it has been my experience that—for now—the business works best with one officiant. I may expand in the future.”
Who is your ideal customer?
“My ideal customer is a couple who wants a fully customized ceremony. I am also a professional writer, so I enjoy writing love stories for their ceremony. However, I love all of my couples and make each experience a memorable one.”
How long have you been in the Mid-Ohio Valley?
“I began officiating weddings in June of 2018 and have since done over 400 ceremonies.”
What is a little-known fact about your business?
“I also offer a marriage assessment called SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Begins). It is also useful for married couples. It is an incredible assessment that helps couples understand each other in ways that benefit their marriage. I have a background in counseling, and I love helping others make changes to improve their lives. I am also a copywriter, ghostwriter, and editor. I’ve written marketing copy and blogs for dozens of niche markets. I also edit books. I have a B.A. in psychology and an M.A. in English. I have a diverse career background.”
Is there any exciting news you would like to share with your fellow MOV Chamber members and community?
“I am getting ready to offer ceremony writing services for a couple who want a customized ceremony but want to hire another officiant. I also have a YouTube channel that I am getting ready to launch for both officiants and engaged couples. My plan is to teach others how to become officiants. I taught college English, communications, and public speaking for 17 years, so I’d like to find another way to use my teaching skills to help others. My channels will also help engaged couples plan their wedding days.”
Why did you decide to get involved with the MOV Chamber?
“I want to get to know other business owners in the Mid-Ohio Valley. I am extremely outgoing when I am working as “Officiant Deb” but tend to be shy when I’m just Deb. I hope to meet others and make new connections in the community.”
